50 Ways Parents Can Help Schools

Helping Your Teen Write Better

National Council of Teachers of
English Resources for Parents &
Students

PBS: "It's My Life: High School"
Hello Parents,

I am honored to have your children in my classes. Your students should be reading everyday at home. Reading is the most important thing we do in English, regardless of the class. You can also expect to see students writing online and in their academic journals. If you are not seeing your students engage in reading or writing at home they may not be keeping up in class. While grades are definitely not the most important thing on the planet, they open or close doors of opportunity.

Talk to your students about their futures. Discuss grades. If you need a middle-man (or woman as the case is), schedule a parent conference and I will echo your concerns about grades and work habits. Together, we can look out for and support your children.

Most, if not all, of my lesson plans and handouts will be posted here in my virtual classroom. I try to be transparent. Click the student tab to access what we are doing in class. If you wonder about my policies or your student is lost or confused, contact me. We can find solutions. My cell phone number is in your child's notebook. You can also contact me via email.

Here's to a great year!
